Volunteering to make a difference
Communities matter which is why we're here to help.
We support communities across the UK by improving access to healthcare. We do this through our Corporate Giving and long-standing, colleague volunteering programme.
Colleague volunteering
We’re proud to work closely with people, community groups and charities at a local, regional, and national level to provide volunteering opportunities for our colleagues.
Every year, Simplyhealth colleagues can use three working days to volunteer their time in their local community. In 2023, this totalled over 1500 hours!
Many of our colleagues also volunteer in their own personal time too.
The Boaz Project
Boaz is a day centre based in Hampshire, for adults with additional needs to visit, and experience what working life is like. Daily activities include tasks such as cooking, horticulture, animal care and crafts.
In this short video, Emily from Boaz shares more about the amazing work Boaz does, and how our Finance team have enjoyed volunteering their time. Across many visits, they’ve helped the Boaz team and their wonderful members develop their facilities.
Andover litter pick
World Cleanup Day is an amazing annual event where volunteers worldwide come together to rid our planet of rubbish – by cleaning up litter and mismanaged waste from our beaches, rivers, forests and streets.
As part of World Clean Up Day, in 2023 our colleagues headed out in our local community, picking up waste and litter so it could be disposed of in the right way without contaminating our ecosystems.
Our colleagues collected over 6 refuse bags full of litter from Andover town centre including cigarette butts, plastic bottles and containers, nappies, as well as discarded clothing such as socks, and trainers.
We're really proud of the team and the role they are playing in tackling the global waste problem, through cleaning up their local community.
Winchester Go LD
Winchester Go LD is a charity that enables adults with learning disabilities to live life to the full with the choices and independence that they want, through promoting self-development, friendship, self-confidence, creativity and learning.
The charity hosts a range of weekly and monthly activities in Hampshire, providing advocacy, information, safeguarding and skills workshops.
Last September a group of Simplyhealth colleagues attended Winchester Go LD's annual Paralympic Personal Bests - a day full of sports and sunshine, for people in the community with physical and learning disabilities to get together and enjoy giving it their all at this fantastic sporting event.
Our volunteers had an amazing (and slightly exhausting day!) of rugby, yoga and aerobics, providing support so that everyone felt comfortable and happy to get involved. And they can't wait to do it all again next year.
