Simplyhealth supports Diabetes UK through a Five Million Step Challenge

Simplyhealth staff are supporting national charity, Diabetes UK, through a new community fundraising challenge of walking five million steps.

Staying active is an important part of managing diabetes, the benefits include helping the body use insulin better, looking after sufferers’ blood pressure, helping with joints and flexibility and for people with Type 2 Diabetes, being active helps improve their HbA1c.

It’s estimated that five million people in the UK will have diabetes by 2025. Therefore the staff at Simplyhealth are collectively taking on the challenge to walk five million steps in just two weeks. This challenge was created internally for staff to track their daily steps and follow a virtually planned route of 10 cities across Europe on a ‘virtual holiday’. At each destination, a donation of £2000 is unlocked for Diabetes UK (up to a total of £20,000). Staff are also encouraged to share their holiday pictures internally of each city when they reach each destination, generating engagement amongst colleagues.

Living our purpose of being happy and healthy is important now more than ever. This latest internal fundraising challenge is a fantastic opportunity to come together as a company, not only supporting our communities through our fundraising, but also promoting a healthier lifestyle to reduce the chance of developing diabetes.

The concept of a ‘virtual holiday’ across Europe is creative and fun for colleagues to get involved with. With every single step of the challenge going towards helping those living with Diabetes in the UK, we hope to reach our target to donate to a very important cause.
