Our CEO Paul Schreier’s thoughts on Labour Party Conference speech by Wes Streeting Secretary of State for Health and Social Care
Paul Schreier, CEO of Simplyhealth said: “With 2.8 million people out of work due to ill health, and NHS delays hindering treatment, it is promising the Health Secretary recognises the urgent need to get people back to health and work.”
“While there is clearly a role for additional, experienced clinicians in helping to cut hospital waiting lists, there is a need for more immediate changes to spread the load — an obvious place to start is for businesses to increase the provision of workplace health cover.”
“Offering healthcare benefits— such as GP access, dental care, physiotherapy and mental health support — is good for both employers and employees, reducing pressure on the NHS waiting lists in the first place, and allowing it to focus on those in greatest need.”
“It is imperative for the Government to work closely with businesses and the health cover and protection sector to encourage workplace support, improve productivity, and drive economic growth.”
